- Turn off the power to the solar hot water booster at the main circuit board if it is an electric boosted solar hot water system. Depending on the fault, you may also be asked to turn off all other power circuits too. Unless water is coming through the lights leave the light circuit on.
- Turn the gas off to your house at the main gas meter. If it is a gas boosted solar hot water system.
- Turn the water off to the system when and only if instructed to do so. All hot water systems should have their own stop tap. This is generally found near the bottom of the system on the left hand side. It will have a blue or green lever or a round black knob.Levers should be turned so they run perpendicular to the pipe. Black knobs should be twisted anti clock wise. If you cannot find the stop valve turn all of the water off to the house at the main stop cock on the road side of the water meter.
- Tell the technician about the brand, the booster type and the type of collectors you have.
- Give the technician your full address and phone number.
- Most emergency repair vehicles are fitted with a GPS system. Therefore provide accurate spelling.
- Make it as easy as possible for the technician to access the problem.
- If it is night time put your outside lights on or be ready with a torch at the front of your house so you can easily be found.
- Move any cars that are parked in or blocking driveways. This will allow the technician to park close to the hot water system.
- Move any obstacles that you have around your hot water system.
