This causes excessive dumping of water through the relief valve, rapid deterioration of sensors and can lead to pump failure. This can be fixed by increasing the pitch to between 45 and 55 degrees. This reduces exposure to the summer sun and increases exposure to the weaker winter sun. It also makes the system more efficient.

The splitting apart of the Kelvinator evacuated tube solar collector arrays

This normally occurs in really cold conditions and is likely a result of poorly made joints by the installer or a poorly fitted sensor. In most cases this can easily be repaired. The sensor should be installed so that it is secure with the sensor wire tucked away to prevent birds attacking it.

Rumbling Kelvinator solar hot water systems

This usually occurs when a hot tap is used on hot days. This sound is made by the flash vaporisation of water into super-heated steam. Kelvinator says this is normal. However, we believe it is not good for your system and reduces the life of the system. This can be addressed by increasing the pitch of the collectors or covering some of the array during the hottest months in Canberra and Queanbeyan.

Loss of efficiency of Kelvinator solar hot water systems

This can occur because of the unique design of the Kelvinator evacuated tube collector array. The array has a concave shaped mirror behind the evacuated tubes. This shape allows dust to settle and set on the reflective mirror behind the tubes. The result is less sunlight reflected towards the collector tubes. This can be fixed by regular maintenance .
